About two hundred feet behind Spence White's old home place are three
graves. |

Southeast of Spencer White's home place on the Serral White homestead is a
fenced area with the graves of Spencer's father and mother. There is
one tombstone with the following inscription: |

There are four or five rocks, in this fenced area, which maybe grave
markers, but since there are no other signs visible the graves could not
be identified. According to Spence White's daughter, Mrs. Belle White Hughes (Mrs. Richard Hughes) who lives near Mena, as of March 27, 1984, her father homesteaded the land which she and her husband now own. Mrs. Belle Hughes remembers people gathering at their home to watch the first trains travel into Mena. She does not know where the Whites originated. But her mother's people whose last name was Rogers moved from Tennessee to Prescott, Arkansas in the middle 1800's. When Belle's mother was seventeen she moved to Polk County to live with her two sisters, Sallie (Mrs. Lawrence Owens) and Leona (Mrs. Webb Hall). |
