Older Americans Have the Highest Home Ownership Rate (Washington, D.C.) - The Census Bureau reports Americans between 65 and 74 years old have the nation's highest homeownership rate, about 81 percent. The bureau said there currently are 35 million U.S. Citizens who are 65 and over - about 12 percent of the population. Seniors also have one of the highest income rates, with $23,047 being the median annual income for those 65 and older.
