Lake Ft Smith State Park in Arkansas

This state park in northwest Arkansas near Mountainburg closed on December 31, 2001, to be relocated to a new site nearby. The park's relocation is due to the enlarging of Lake Fort Smith and Lake Shepherd Springs into a single reservoir to provide additional water storage for Forth Smith, Arkansas municipal water supply. The new park will be located on the western side of the enlarged reservoir. Plans are for the new Lake Forth Smith State Park to open in 2004. Facilities will include campsites, group lodging, picnic sites, trails, a visitor center, pavilion, pool and marina. For updates on the progress of the new facilities, please contact the park.
