This region of Arkansas is known as the "Arkansas River
Valley". There are many interesting State Parks and Museums in
this area. You'll find:
-
Lake Dardanelle - For those who enjoy camping by a scenic lake with great fishing, this park
offers two areas on Lake Dardanelle, a 34,000-acre lake on the Arkansas
River.
Lake Dardanelle has been named a "Southern
Travel Treasure" by the AAA Southern Traveler magazine.
-
Mount Magazine - Through partnership with the USDA Forest Service, Arkansas's newest state
park is in the Ozark National Forest atop the state's tallest mountain.
Vistas of broad river valleys, deep canyons and distant mountains welcome
outdoor enthusiasts and those who enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mount
Magazine.
-
Mount Nebo - Rising 1,350 feet above the Arkansas River Valley, Mount Nebo offers
spectacular views. The mountain has been attracting travelers and
settlers for over 100 years when a resort hostelry was operated on the
mountain top for steam boat travelers. In 1933, a portion of the
mountain was chosen as a park site. Logs and stones from Mount Nebo
were used by the Civilian Conservation Corps to construct many of the
park's bridges, trails, rustic-style cabins and pavilions.
-
Petit Jean State Park -
The natural
beauty of Petit Jean Mountain inspired the creation of the Arkansas State
Parks system. Combining rustic-style with modern conveniences,
facilities of log and stone constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps
are nestled throughout the park
-
Woolly Hollow - Nestled
in the Ozark foothills, this peaceful park includes 40-acre Lake Bennett,
perfect for fishing and swimming.
